The New Orleans Juneteenth Festival began June 2020 in New Orleans. The festival provides an artistic space for African American performing artists, vendors, and speakers while celebrating and commemorating June 19th 1867, the day the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were freed after finding out slavery had been abolished 2 years prior when the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
